AH, THE SMELL OF MONEY SPRING

so a guy donated $55 milion to the business school last week. and renamed it after himself. i would like to think that he went bankrupt after that, but apparently he makes billions a year. jason says his daughter is hot. what are the odds; being a billionaire's daughter AND having a pretty face.

spring must be near. the air has started to smell like cow dung and the other day i heard a sound very much like a pigeon getting stomach cramps (mating call, maybe?). honestly, it's like a zoo. the grass is piled with fertilizer and walking to class is like a trip to the farm. i dont remember when spring came last year, but presently the trees are still very much bald. i am thankful though that the sun is out most days now.

happy spring, all :) *tweet tweet*

WRITE!

had interesting chats with both my technical writing professor and my fiction writing professor. it's fun to be talking seriously about the forms of academic and professional writing one minute and then discussing silly ideas on magical realism the next. my tech writing professor is really excited that i should go into professional writing. we had a long talk last friday about all the possibilities and she lent me a couple of her books for me to read.

yesterday i met up with professor masters. this man is quite a character to describe. he's near past 80, but his sense of humor is as fresh as any nineteen-year-old. he cracks us all up in class (and i dont mean lame jokes that we laugh at out of pity) and his choice of fiction is pretty interesting. i sat in his office for half an hour, initially to discuss class. but we ended up talking about the photographs on his walls which he had taken himself. he's a decent photographer, i must say. i've begun to realize that many writers do photography. it must be that at some point of their career they have touched upon journalistic writing or freelancing.

anyway, in studying genre fiction, i attempted a silly piece for experimental purposes. professor masters is a disbeliever in animation/inanimation dialog, so i wanted to test the waters to see how far he would accept or reject my story. it's far from being completed, but anyhoo....here's some light reading for you :)

SLEEPLESS IN PITT

my professor increased my salary by 50 cents.

for 3 days i have watched the sky turn from midnight blue to orange red to bright blue. from where i sit the angle is spectacular and it seems as if the sky is fenced by bald branches outside the window. i tend not to stare out too much at night, but when dawn breaks you feel its a lot unlikely to find goblins peering in :)

somehow i think i may have lost the ability to sleep. and through it i've gained the gift of time. my sister keeps reminding me though that sleep deprivation causes the brain to become slow. i think i believe her.
